About Grasscutters




Grasscutters known (botanical) as Thryonomysswinderianus are rodents widely found in grasslands, clearings, wet or marshy areas in Africa. 

       They are more commonly known as “hedgehogs” in Central Africa, “agouti” in French-speaking West Afric a, and “cane rats or grasscutter” in English-speaking West Africa and Ọ̀yà by the Yorubas in the Southwest Nigeria.

Grasscutters are a great source of meat for many households in sub-saharan Africa paticulally Nigeria. The nutritious and scarce meats doesn’t just serve as a delicious and enjoyable delicasy but also a very good source of natural nontoxic protein to compliment Africa’s popular daily starchy dishes.
